Sport, exercise and musculoskeletal medicine in London

Portrait of Dr Isa Waheed

I see people with sports injuries, joint and muscle pain or concussion, as well as anyone who wants to exercise safely with a long-term condition. I’ll explain what the research shows, including where it’s uncertain, and we’ll decide on a plan together.

About

I studied sports and exercise medicine at Queen Mary University of London before qualifying in medicine at City St George’s, University of London. I’m now a GP trainee in the NHS, and I’m completing an MSc in Sports Medicine, Exercise and Health at UCL.

I also work in sport, as an England Boxing doctor and as a pitchside and event doctor. I’m a Member of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine and hold the FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine.

Alongside clinical work, I teach. I have a postgraduate certificate in clinical education from King’s College London and I’m a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I founded StudySEM, which teaches sport and exercise medicine to clinicians, and Protero, which turns research on injury prevention into practical guidance for the public.

Much of my interest is in prevention: what lowers the chance of an injury happening, or happening again.

How I work

Time to assess you properly

New appointments leave room for a full history and examination, and for your questions.

Honest about the evidence

I’ll tell you what the research supports and where it’s weak. I don’t offer treatments that lack good evidence, however popular they are.

A plan you can follow

You’ll leave knowing what to do next and which signs mean you should come back sooner.

Prevention as well as recovery

As you recover, we’ll look at what could stop the same problem coming back.

Joined-up care

With your consent, I’ll write to your GP or physiotherapist so everyone works from the same plan.

Training and credentials

I’m registered with the General Medical Council and hold a licence to practise.
